Daily Bites Of God’s Word – Part 7 – Psalm 119:7

Just as we need daily food to sustain us physically, we also need daily food from God’s Word to sustain us spiritually.

Psalm 119:7 LSB

I shall give thanks to You with uprightness of heart,
When I learn Your righteous judgments.

God is the sovereign judge of the universe. The judge of all the earth can only judge rightly. There will never be a judgment by God that is not perfectly righteous. We learn from this verse that as God’s people, when we see God’s judgments when we see God acting in the world, we respond with thanksgiving. We are thankful because the judgments are righteous and good.

Word Study

Thanks – praise, give thanks, worship, express gratitude.

Uprightness – with integrity, straight paths, with fairness.

When I Learn – to acquire knowledge, acquire skills, to become educated.

Judgments – justice, decisions, an administration of just rulings.

It can be hard to express gratitude to God when His justice is adverse to us because of our sins. We love seeing justice brought upon others. We should be thankful for all of God’s judgments, even as a consequence of our sins, because the goodness of God leads us to repentance. Thankfully, justice for our sins has been paid for by Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary.

Praying This Daily Bite

Father, thank you for your righteous judgments. Thank you for being the one true and righteous judge. Thank you for saving me. Lord Jesus, thank you for paying for my sin. Thank you for showing grace to me, a sinner.
