Daily Bites Of God’s Word – Part 11 – Psalm 119:11

Just as we need daily food to sustain us physically, we also need daily food from God’s Word to sustain us spiritually.

Psalm 119:11 LSB

11 Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.

One of the most well-known verses among Christians is Psalm 119:11. It was likely a verse one memorized growing up. It should be a model for our Christian life. God’s Word is not something we blindly obey as one would some heartless dictator. We obey God’s Word because we treasure it. It is the Word of the Almighty and loving God!

Word Study

Treasured – to hide, store, hoard, protect, and preserve for future use.

Only one main word we are looking at today. We need to focus on what it means to treasure God’s Word in our hearts. Notice that one of the meanings is to “hoard.” When one thinks about a hoarder, they think about someone who never throws anything away. The hoarder keeps everything! We need to keep everything in God’s Word close to our hearts! We need to preserve it for future use, meaning we learn it, store it, and then live it!

Applying This Daily Bite

  1. Do you treasure God’s Word?
  2. Do you preserve God’s Word in your heart for daily living?
  3. When was the last time you meditated deeply over a portion of God’s Word?

Praying This Daily Bite

Father, help me to treasure your Word. God, I want to protect and hide your Word in my heart so I can walk in holiness. I do not want to sin against you, Lord. I need your sustaining power to live righteously. Your Word is my ultimate treasure in my life! I want to store it in the vault of my heart.
