Daily Bites Of God’s Word – Part 16 – Psalm 119:16

Just as we need daily food to sustain us physically, we also need daily food from God’s Word to sustain us spiritually.

Psalm 119:16 LSB

16 I shall delight in Your statutes;
I shall not forget Your word.

If someone asked, “What do you find the most joy in?” What would be your response? Many would say something like their family, job, or sports. The Psalmist wants us to know that we should find joy and delight in God’s Word. Rather than neglect God’s Word, it should take priority in our lives. Scripture is not something to half-heartedly obey out of some duty but should bring us great joy walking in obedience to Scripture as we glorify our Father.

Word Study

Delight – I find joy, I delight myself, to play, to be merry.

Forget – neglect, failing to remember, to disregard (both intentionally and unintentionally)

Christians intentionally and unintentionally neglect God’s Word at times. This requires repentance and commitment to studying and applying God’s Word daily. Scripture is a joy for the Christian. To obey Christ is how we demonstrate that we have been born again. We will never image Christ if we don’t study how to image Him.

Applying This Daily Bite

  1. Have you neglected God’s Word in your life recently?
  2. Do you find joy and delight sitting down to study God’s Word?
  3. How has your delight in God’s Word changed your life?

Praying This Daily Bite

Lord, help me delight in your Word. I do not want to intentionally or unintentionally neglect your Holy Word. There are many things I delight in. I want to find the most delight in you your Word.
