Daily Bites Of God’s Word – Part 2 – Psalm 119:2

Just as we need daily food to sustain us physically, we also need daily food from God’s Word to sustain us spiritually.

Psalm 119:2 LSB

How blessed are those who observe His testimonies,
They seek Him with all their heart.

In verse 2 of this great Psalm, we learn more about this “blessed” person. Not only are they blameless because they walk in the law of Yahweh, but they also observe His testimonies.

Word Study

Observe – to guard, to keep watch, to preserve, to maintain a particular practice.

Testimonies – This comes from a Hebrew word (edah) defined as a congregation or assembly. Its meaning in this context is a testimony or a witness. The community of believers in the Old and New Testaments is said to witness and testify to who God is and what He has done. Therefore, to “observe His testimonies” is to keep watch over and preserve the witness and testimony of the body.

Seek – to inquire, to investigate, to follow.

Whole – entire, every part, in totality.

Heart – the feelings, the will, the intellect of a person.

The community of believers, individuals and collectively, are to be witnesses and testify in word and deed about God. This is possible only from people who seek God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Applying This Daily Bite

  1. In what ways do you guard or keep watch over your testimony for Jesus Christ?
  2. In what ways does your local church guard or keep watch over its testimony for Jesus Christ?
  3. Are there any parts of your life that you don’t seek God wholeheartedly?

Praying This Daily Bite

God, I am committed to watching over and keeping my testimony pure. Help me to seek you with all of my heart every day of my life. Father, help me to influence my local church to guard and protect our witness in our community for you.
