Daily Bites Of God’s Word – Part 5 – Psalm 119:5

Just as we need daily food to sustain us physically, we also need daily food from God’s Word to sustain us spiritually.

Oh may my ways be established
To keep Your statutes!

In this verse, we get a categorical distinction between Creator and creation. God is God. We are not. God gives The true longing of the heart of God’s people should be to study and obey His word! It should be a deep conviction for us all to pursue and follow the statutes of God! One of the great evidences of a regenerated soul is the desire to know God, know His Word, and keep His Word. It should trouble us when we are not living according to His divinely inspired precepts.

Word Study

Oh May – Oh that, would that, deep longing or desire.

My Ways – my path, road, course, life, journey, conduct.

Established – to establish, direct, prepare, make firm, set in place.

To Keep – watch over, preserve, to guard.

Statutes – decree, instruction, ordinance, regulation.

The child of God will want to see their life match up to the Word of God. We will want to enhance those areas where we are walking well and correct those areas where we are not. The Word of God is the firm foundation for righteousness and holiness that every believer should pursue.

Applying This Daily Bite

  1. Do you have a deep longing and desire to study God’s Word?
  2. Do you have that same desire to have your life conformed to Scripture?
  3. Have you evaluated your life to see what areas are obedient to Scripture and which are not?

Praying This Daily Bite

Lord, I greatly desire to keep your Word. I repent for those times when I sin. Lord, help direct my steps. Direct my heart. Direct my path. Father, make firm the path of righteousness in my life. I want to honor you and glorify you in my life.
