This verse hearkens back to verse 5, where the Psalmist cried out that they deeply longed to have their life established in and by the Word of God. Here we find that the one who truly establishes their ways on the Word of God has no reason for shame when reading God’s Word. Nothing is more convicting than reading a portion of Scripture or hearing a sermon that touches on an area of your life where sin is present.
Word Study
Ashamed – to feel shame, to be disappointed, to be humiliated.
Look – consider, regard, behold, to see. (In Jewish culture, one’s sight was often used metaphorically of understanding.)
Your Commandments – an order or directive given by God.
The way to walk confidently in life is to walk in holiness. This confidence is not pride because true holiness is founded in humility. The Christian is humble and lives humbly without shame when submitted to God’s Word.
